Hallo everyone, so today we have a great news, finally.
Repositories for Karmic are online, this means you can now install OpenGEU 9.10 Quarto di Luna from packages on any *buntu 9.10 system. We had a lot of problems to solve for this release and we had to recompile E17 from the latest snapshots to fix various Ecomorph issues. The news about this release are really many, we've been working a lot on OpenGEU and Enlightenment itself.
- New Enlightenment repos from snapshot with many new features
- Ecomorph improved, with new logo designed by me too :P
- Elementary, the new unified Enlightenment toolkit took the place of ETK and EWL, they are not compiled anymore in repos.
- Shellementary by Quaker, a fantastic tool similar to Zenity for GTK: it allows anyone to transform normal shell scripts into graphical applications with a real UI, without knowing pretty anything about coding!
- Old E apps using EWL or ETk are now being converted to support Elementary. You'll find some new E17 apps too, like ephoto. Estickies is working again and it uses Elementary: guess who's the maintainer and coder of the new Estickies? Quaker, naturally ;)
- Quaker resuscitated Entrance, the Enlightenment Display Manager! It now supports DBus (things like network manager works with it), it's translatable, works with the latest E17, handles various sessions with a scrolling sections list and more! Our idea is that of rewriting Entrance from the basis in the future, so that it will all use Elementary and it will be lighter and more functional. Since Quaker's the Entrance maintainer now, our entrance themes are distributed with Entrance by default ;)
- New E17, Entrance and GTK themes! For this I have to thank Quaker and Duma :)
- Since we don't leave anyone behind, there are also brand new GDM themes by Siddolo for the old fully themeable GDM!
- Karmic has a new GDM too, so, if you want to change the look of your GDM theme, you can use our new tool developed by MadnessMike: GDM Tweaker!
- New Geutheme, with so many new abilities... Geutheme now can: handle Entrance themes, new and old GDM themes, it is able of launching Ecomorph settings if the module is loaded or show you the usual OpenGEU desktop effects options and it can now create for you custom OpenGEU themes, build a package from them and even upload themes online in our new OpenGEU Themes Closet! From Geutheme you can also browse available themes from our database, read descriptions and view screenshot, download and install themes automatically, thanks to the joint efforts of development from MadnessMike and Intilinux! So, now, go on and create new themes, then upload them online: all you need is to be a registered user of our forums.
- The OpenGEU Themes Closet, a new OpenGEU website in WordPress, it will show you every new theme uploaded by the OpenGEU community thanks to a fantastic new WP Plugin developed by Matt Prokes, new member of our team! From this new website you can view from a web browser a list of our themes, see the previews, read descriptions, leave comments, ratings, share on facebook or twitter, a lot of features and fun, go check for yourself :)
- New tools to make your OpenGEU experience easier, in the form of 2 new sessions you can choose at startup: First run wizard will load the E17 Wizard module with a special page coded by Quaker! It will help you choose how to configure your session if you wish, you can choose a vanilla E17 session or any other default configuration, or you can choose an OpenGEU session. You can also choose to use our OpenGEU ibar applications or set your own apps to go in the main shelf and startup applications in the OpenGEU session will be automatically setted for you!
- A new OpenGEU environment design. This is just how I decided to position shelves in the desktop, and where to place modules, I know, but I tried to make it more user friendly and more easy for you to enjoy your apps and handle desktops ;)
- Improved Places Module by Quaker ;)
- EFM has been way improved by Sergey and others but we don't think it's still enough to be used as an all day File Manager, so we prefer to stay stick with Thunar for now. Maybe in the future releases we'll have a finally usable EFM ;)
To install OpenGEU Quarto di Luna please follow
this guide in our wiki. Enjoy this release and please be patient for an iso to be released... we are debugging some annoying problems: Ubuntu Karmic has been a really though Ubuntu version to disassemble and reassemble again... there are tons of workarounds in the iso and the structure itself is really weird. Sorry but we still need some time to fix things up. The repos should work pretty well though.
Enjoy :)

| Have OpenGEU installed from live CD...looks AMAZING!
Feels like Ubuntu...although was hard to "find" things in the menu.
Having the same screen resolution problems as Ubuntu Karmic. But runs fine without Nvidia drivers installed. I wonder if this "release" will "fix" things up? I am trying to get the dual screen composite(TV)out feature of my Nvidia 5200 FX working. |
